Horvath's playing reflects this aesthetic controversy while accommodating Satie's quiet irony. He dispenses with romanticizing exaggerations and minimalistic percussion and plays with a remarkable distance that seems cool and surreal at the same time. A strong start to a series of recordings that stages Satie's music in a new way in terms of sound and interpretation and also comes up with a few rarities that you won't find on other complete recordings.
