Press Reviews

The Guardian (11 Novembre 2021 - Erica Jeal) This week’s other pick ★★★★
Horvath makes appealingly light work of her nine keyboard sonatas, several recorded for the first time.

Pizzicato (14 Novembre 2021 -Remy Frank) RATING : ♪♪♪♪
As gripping as Horvath plays them, they do not even sound feminine. are played expressively
an important addition to the catalog of recordings of her works

Télérama (8 Février 2022 –Sophie Bourdais ) FFFF We love passionately
An aristocrat spared by the Revolution, Hélène de Montgeroult composed nine pre-romantic sonatas, drawn from oblivion by the passion of Nicolas Horvath.
We like to think that the Marquise, who refused to sacrifice expressiveness on the altar of virtuosity, would have appreciated the energetic and very expressive interpretation that Nicolas Horvath offers her and us.

Classica (Avril 2022 – Jacques Bonnaure) RATING : ★★★★★
Nicolas Horvath's interpretation is impeccable in its clarity and brilliance, following perfectly the stylistic evolution of the works: the first sonatas are full of this charming brilliance, this melodic sap and this inexhaustible vitality; in the later opuses, he captures the strangeness of the climates and the tension between a culture steeped in classicism and new aspirations.

Crescendo-Magazine (7 avril 2022 - Christophe Steyne) Sound : 8,5 – Bookmet : 9,5 – Répertoire : 9,5 – Interprétation : 9,5
On a Steinway model D, Nicolas Horvath dispenses a “short-regulated” playing reminiscent of the sound of the pianoforte with pneumatic basses and a dull and rich medium, without brilliance and little resonance.
His clear, sanguine playing circumvents prettiness, he densifies the discourse and strengthens the complexion of all these pages (at the top, the dignified contemplation of the Adagio non troppo of the sonata in D major).
This haughty album, armed with the surest tone and technique, can militate both for the discovery and the rehabilitation of a proud lady whose history of the piano must keep track. We congratulate the initiative of the label and the quality of this achievement that we cannot recommend highly enough.

American Record Guide (Mai/Juin 2022 - Harrington)
Horvath is an excellent pianist with a wide ranging recorded repertoire, including a lot of contemporary music. He has made another great recording of obscure repertoire like this current release: Anne Louise Brillon de Jouy (Grand Piano 872, Nov/Dec 2021). These are works that are well worth hearing, with superb playing, great recorded sound, and comprehensive booklet essays.

La Boite à Musique - Coup de coeur

Gramophone (Janvier 2022 –Philip Kennicott)
Pianist Nicolas Horvath is a conscientious advocate for Montgeroult and his interpretations smooth over things that other interpreters would find stumbling blocks.

Ritmos.se (May 2022) Recommended Ritmos albums #1 May 2022 (include in Three Centuries of Female Composers compilation)
Outstanding unreleased recordings

Tower Records
a major contribution

Operamusicclassic (Philippe Gut - december 2022)
Beautiful album in two CDs recorded by the excellent pianist Nicolas Horvath who strives to make known the French composers at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
It's perfect. To mark with a white stone!

Stretto (22 Novembre 2021 - Michel Dutrieue)
Another discovery!

Concertonet.com (15 Décembre 2021 –Stéphane Guy ) RATING : ♪♪♪   Sélectionné par la rédaction
The merit of Nicolas Horvath, a decidedly curious pianist, after having made us discover pieces by another composer, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy (1744-1824), with the same publisher, is to reveal to us all the sonatas of Hélène de Montgeroult with honesty and tact.
the result remains exciting and high quality.

Musikzen (15 Mars 2022 - Marc Vignal) RATING 5/5
A beautiful integral

RTBF Musiq3 – Classique (4 Mars 2022 - Nicolas Blanmont) – Coup de coeur

Grey Panthers (1 Fevrier 2022 –Ferruccio Nuzzo)
Nicolas Horvath is a faithful interpreter of this very interesting collection
He applies this "art of singing well" on the instrument which, inspired by the art of singing, animates the music of Hélène de Montgeroult, contrasting with the performances of the "rowdy virtuosos who seem to have only one but, the display of their muscular strengths, breaking ropes and hammers to show talent".

Politique Magazine (Decembre 2021 –Damien Top) Nicolas Horvath ressuscite deux étoiles du Piano
Explorer of little-known repertoires, pianist Nicolas Horvath defends with freshness and passion, elegance and sensitivity the complete sonatas of these composers played on a contemporary instrument, which gives them an undeniable modernity. The precursory characteristics of their inventions only come out more, for our greatest happiness.

David's Review Corner (Novembre 2021 - David Denton)
These two extended discs are proactive almost throughout. Indeed it proves a testimony to the dexterity of the French pianist, Nicolas Horvath,.
 a most interesting release.

Beethovenetlesautres (1 Décembre 2021 – Frederic Reibell)
Thanks to this elegant and refined recording of the piano sonatas of Hélène de Montgeroult by Nicolas Horvath, we can finally admire the evolution of this prodigious composer since her beginnings, under the influence of Haydn, of the Italian model of the 18th century, as well as than from the old French style, as the libretto explains, to the latest works, in the cantabile style, where "melodic development gains in importance".

BBC Music Magazine (22 Décembre 2021 –Michael Beek) interprétation : ★★★ recording: ★★★★
Horvath plays a modern Steinway, but, aware of the pianoforte that Montgeroult herself would have played, interprets these works with a light and very articulate sound. It's effective and eloquently performed by Horvath

PAN M 360 (Novembre 2021 - Alexandre Villemaire)
French pianist Nicolas Horvath makes it a point of honor to give voice to this neglected musical figure.
Nicolas Horvath highlights each stylistic element with a fiery, refined and lyrical playing giving the full measure of the virtuosity of this composer with an exceptional career.

Francis Benoît Cousté (Novembre 2021)
A thousand thanks to the eminent Monegasque pianist Nicolas Horvath (°1977) for revealing to us this too little-known composer of the end of the classical period & the beginning of the romantic period.
Visionary sonatas recorded here, for the most part, in world premiere

Musicologie.org (2 Décembre 2021 –Jean-Marc Warszawski ) Les sonates d'Hélène de Montgeroult par Nicolas Horvath
A little offbeat from the repertoires with metro-like crowds at rush hour, which adds interest, Nicolas Horvath likes the integrals, Erik Satie, Jaan Rääts, Philip Glass … and the musicians of the end of the old regime.
After the sonatas, which we will present, of Anne Louise Brillon de Jouy (1744-1824), here are the complete ones of Hélène de Montgeroult, essential sound testimony of the musical landscape of the time that we know little about, which increases tenfold the musical pleasure that we can have from it.

Réformes (2 décembre 2021 –Paul-Hubert des Mesnards)  Hélène de Montgeroult, une compositrice méconnue
After Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy, the pianist Nicolas Horvath continues his development of musical heritage with Hélène de Montgeroult.
The pianist Nicolas Horvath, great discoverer of rarities,
This ensemble represents a major contribution to the French repertoire of the last period of classicism and the birth of romanticism.

Musique classique & Co (Novembre 2021 -Thierry Vagne)
We salute the (tireless) investment of Nicolas Hovarth for this more than interesting recording.

ON Mag (31 Janvier 2022 –Jean-Pierre Robert ) Note Technique 5/5
He plays [these sonatas] with the expert technique for which he is known and with a concern for authenticity, although on a modern piano. And this with the light and nimble touch that marked her interpretations of Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy's piano, added here in a necessarily athletic way given the particular language of Hélène de Montgeroult.

Tremolo Magazine (30 Novembre 2021 –Emmanuelle Bordon)  Très beau disque

Les Chroniques de Benito Pelegrín (26 Mars 2022 - Benito Pelegrín) Une Compositrice retrouvée
Let us salute this generous researcher Nicolas Horvath who tears from oblivion these admirable women composers, whom he interprets and serves with remarkable passion and stylistic respect.
